The Fugitive Art Center will host a reading by four poets: Jeff Baker, Kevin Christianson, Nancy Mendoza and Nick Regiacorte at 8:00 pm on July 31st in its gallery.
Jeff Baker grew up in East Tennessee and received his BA in English from Tennessee Technological University in '96. In '99 Baker Received his MFA in Creative Writing Poetry from the Iowa Writers' Workshop. At Iowa, Baker received a teaching/writing fellowship. His poems have been publishedin the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Kevin Christianson is a product of the Rust Belt and Wisconsin Northwoods. He received a Ph. D. in English from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and currently is a professor of English and Creative Writing at Tennessee Technological University. He has been awarded a Fulbright to teach in Poland for the coming academic year. His poems have appeared in The Formalist, New Letters, Black Bear Review, and Lynx Eye.
Nancy Mendoza grew up in Tucson, Arizona and attended the University of Arizona. There she received her BFA with a double major in British Literature and Creative Writing and a minor in Sculpture. In '99 she received her MFA in Creative Writing Poetry from the Iowa Writers' Workshop. In the fall Mendoza will be begin an MFA in Translation through the comparative literature dept at the University of Iowa where she will work with and translate the works of visiting poets in Iowa's International Writers Program.
Nick Regiacourte grew up in Maine andreceived his BA in English at Roanoke College. In '98 he received his MFA in Creative Writing Poetry from the Iowa Writers' Workshop. He is a recipient of the James Mitchner and Paul Engle Grant. Regiacourte's poems have been published in the Denver Quarterly.
